Deze Hond bijt niet
A very amusing and naive woodblock print of a dog.
The Museum Kennemerland, a regional museum located in Beverwijk in the former town hall of Wijk aan Zee and Duin, Holland, dates this woodblock print to 1800-1850 and translates part of the regional saying as:
"This Dog does not bite".
with a 4 line verse:
"Dear ones! Let the dog serve you as an example ....".
I have found two versions online, see below, possibly a humorous, popular and cheap print of the period.
With new mount and backing boards.
In original dark painted frame (some faults).
Frame: 15” x 18” 38cm x 46cm
Image: 11” x 14” 28cm x 36cm
