A large. charming naive 19th century oil of a young girl, in a blue dress wearing a coral necklace and holding fruit. 19th century.
From the Roman period it was believed that coral necklaces could protect children from danger and keep them healthy. This belief carried on well into the 19th century, when child mortality was still at a high rate.
Oil on canvas and mounted on board. In, we believe, the original maple frame with recent gold slip.
